Surely writing personal diaries and thoughts, as well as recording your deep feelings and emotions, both occasionally and regularly, contains numerous benefits. Writing diaries aids a person in learning the arts of creative expression and free writing. It is also a means of recording significant events and precious memories, which will one day be a stepping stone toward success. This action makes a person a writer without them realising it and it changes a person’s life for the better.
Shaykh Muhi Uddin al-Faruqi (حفظه الله تعالى) gave the following advice so that one may progress in this skill.
- Write the day, date, and topic accurately at the beginning of the book.
- Determine a suitable time and an appropriate place for writing diaries, if the matter requires you to do so.
- Pay attention to the quality of the handwriting and expressions.
- Choose common words and well-known phrases.
- Try to make your writing free from grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
- Write about important events using the first-person past tense.
- Write a diary entry every day, even if it is a line or two, and do not stop under any circumstances.
- Review your own writing, then pass it on to the teacher.
- Reconsider looking at the mistakes that the teacher pointed out and practice upon the suggestions the teacher gave.
