As Muslims, we often read Ḥadīth and seek guidance from the Sunnah of the Messenger. Due to Sayyidunā Abū Hurairah’s great contribution to ḥadīth literature by teaching and narrating ḥadīth, every Muslim has come to know of him from a young age. It is therefore vital for us to learn about him. He is the “Gateway” to ḥadīth and Sunnah.
On the 30th of May, Baitul Hikmah Institute organised a three hour lecture on Abū Hurairah at Madani Madrasah, London. A number of students, from different institutes, attended the session. Thereafter on the 19th of June, I delivered another lecture on the same topic in a webinar organised by “Siblings Of Ilm”. While preparing for these two sessions, I made some notes from various sources. I then decided to collate them and thought it to be useful for anyone wishing to learn a brief biography of Abū Hurairah .
Whilst reading this small book, one should bear in mind that it is a combination of a transcription of my lecture as well as my own notes. As such, all the details have not been included, since it was not the purpose of this work. We hope this will inspire us to study more about this great Ṣaḥābī and many others. I am grateful to my students M. B. Shuaib and Shah T Ahmed who helped me with proofreading. I also thank all those who supported us, in any way, to make this project a success.
May Allāh the almighty accept this humble initiative from us all.
Ameen.
